Don't Eat the Yellow Snow

A song by Frank Zappa.

This is the first part of the "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow suite", which opens the album "Apostrophe". The suite follows an eskimo, Nanook, inside a dreamlike setting which gets more distorted the more the suite goes on.

Released in 1974 as a single, this was the first Zappa song to hit the charts, at #86, although it only constitutes the first 45 seconds of the single version, with “Nanook Rubs It” comprising of the rest of the run time.

Verses

  • Verse 1
    Dreamed I was an Eskimo
    Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero
  • Verse 2
    And my mama cried, "Uh-uh-hoo-hoo"
    And my mama cried
    "Nanook, a-no-no, no-no, Nanook, a-no-no, no-no
    Don't be a naughty Eskimo"
"Save your money, don't go to the show"
  • Verse 3
Well, I turned around and I said "Ho, ho"
Well, I turned around and I said "Ho, ho"
Well, I turned around and I said "Ho-Ho"
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye...
